House Hunters: Historical Figures Edition

House Hunters: Historical Figures Edition

What do Napoleon, C.S. Lewis, and Joan of Arc have in common? They all need a home… in the western suburbs of Chicago! Join me as I play matchmaker between legendary historical figures and modern-day real estate. From Hinsdale’s imperial elegance to La Grange Park’s literary charm to Lemont’s rugged resolve, we’re asking the important questions-like:

🏰 Where would Napoleon commute from?
📚 Which suburb has the best backyard for quiet musing?
🐎 Can Joan of Arc get horse-friendly zoning?

This isn’t your typical market update. It’s history, personality, and a little suburban satire, all wrapped up in one real estate tour.

Who should be next? Churchill? Cleopatra? Let me know in the comments.

What happens when the legends of history need a place to call home in the western suburbs of Chicago? Today’s clients include a French emperor with control issues, a mild-mannered Oxford don, and a teenage military commander who hears voices. And somehow, they’ve all landed in the same real estate market. I’m Eric with Andersen Realty Group. Let’s find them a home!

Napoleon didn’t come this far to settle for a starter home. He wants prestige. Commanding curb appeal. Grand staircases and especially high ceilings, because he’s tired of all the short jokes. Hinsdale is his natural choice. Why? Because it’s exclusive, expensive, and efficient. He may have lost Waterloo, he can win bidding wars. He’d be drawn to a stately brick Georgian: symmetrical, authoritative, and built for entertaining diplomats or intimidating rival CEOs. But let’s be clear: he’s not overpaying. Napoleon negotiates like he’s storming a fortress. His inspection demands? Ruthless. Oh, and he loves the express train. Conquering the Loop in under 25 minutes? Classic Napoleon.

C.S. Lewis is not interested in open-concept anything. He wants bookshelves. Nooks. Charm. A home that feels like it has something to say. He’s not flashy. He’s thoughtful. And while Naperville might overwhelm him, La Grange Park feels just right. Quiet, walkable, and full of homes with stories to tell: this is the kind of suburb where you can sip tea, read theology, and maybe even discover a wardrobe that leads somewhere unexpected. He’d go for a Tudor or early 20th-century colonial. Brick, ivy, leaded glass. A backyard for musing. A fireplace for reading by lamplight. And he’d probably start a book club at the local coffee shop.

Joan of Arc doesn’t need luxury. She needs purpose. And maybe a little acreage for her horse. Lemont speaks to that gritty, underdog spirit. It’s a historic village carved out of limestone bluffs and iron determination. No frills, just mission. Her non-negotiables? Proximity to open land, walking-distance to church, and a home where she can still hear the call of destiny. Lemont delivers. Sure, the roads are winding and the hills are steep, but that’s nothing compared to liberating France. And if zoning gets in the way? No problem. Joan has dealt with much worse councils.

So what do an emperor, a professor, and a prophet have in common? Apparently, they all need good schools, access to transit, and enough character to match their own. Real estate isn’t just square footage. It’s personality, and every suburb has a soul. Which historical figure would you like me to help find a home next? Churchill? Cleopatra?
