My name is Eric and I own an independent real estate brokerage in Chicago, Illinois. I specialize in helping out-of-state newcomers find the perfect home here in Burr Ridge and the western suburbs. When I’m not selling homes, I love spending time with my wife and 6 children, serving my congregations (I’m an ordained Lutheran pastor and serve Zion, Summit & Immanuel, Hodgkins), exercising, and making Neapolitan pizza from scratch and baking it in my Ooni wood-fired oven. Despite being a Chicago native, I’m a St. Louis Blues & Nashville Predators fan. I’m currently reading the biography of John Adams by David McCullough and How to Be Perfect by Michael Schur.

Knowing what school district your home or future home is in matters. And it matters not only for families with children, but for everyone, since school quality will have a big impact on property values. I’m Eric with Eric Andersen Homes, and Burr Ridge offers a pretty complicated set of school options. A number of my clients have relocated to Burr Ridge from the city or out-of-state, and one of the most common questions I get about Burr Ridge has to do with the schools. Depending on where you live or purchase in Burr Ridge, any children you have would go to one of *eleven* different schools. Yes, you heard that right: eleven. That’s a lot of schools! Trying to pick a school in Burr Ridge is almost like trying to buy toothpaste. You go to the store and there are like 9 million options, and I have no idea what makes one different from the other. And by the way, those eleven schools are just the public options and don’t include any private schools, parochial schools, or homeschool groups. In this video, I’m going to help you navigate the Burr Ridge school map and hopefully help you make some sense of it. Burr Ridge residents send their children to one of four elementary schools, one of four middle schools, and one of three high schools. So again, eleven schools. Let’s break down each of the options by their grade level, by their rating on niche.com, and then we’ll also talk about what the schools offer and some of their notable achievements. The elementary school options are Elm, with an A+ Niche rating, Pleasantdale and Gower West, both rated an A by Niche, and Anne M. Jeans, with a B- rating. So regardless of where you live in Burr Ridge, if you have children, they will get a quality education. When your weakest elementary school receives a B-, that’s pretty good. And if you don’t have children, knowing the schools is still important, because that will have an impact on your home’s resale value. And on that point, we note that all of the Burr Ridge schools are strong, so it’s not like any of the areas will provide a massive liability when it comes to resale, though some of the schools are more highly-rated than others. As for the middle schools, there’s Pleasantdale, Gower, and Hinsdale, all rated A by Niche, and Burr Ridge Middle School, which received a Niche rating of C. That is the lowest rating of any school in Burr Ridge, and while it’s not an A or a B, keep in mind that a C rating is still average. It’s not great, but it’s not terrible, either. Finally, the high schools are all rated an A+ by Niche, and they include Hinsdale South, Hinsdale Central, and Lyons Township High School. Now, it’s not like you are equally likely to send any children you have to, say, LT High School as you are to, say, Hinsdale South, as most of Burr Ridge will send their children to South, and only a small section of Burr Ridge feeds into Hinsdale Central and LT. But we want to be comprehensive in this video, so I’m going to mention all of the options. If you want to purchase a home in one of these specific school districts, I can help you identify those. I’m not going to do that here because it would be complicated and make this video about two hours, which would render it little more than a great cure for insomnia. Some things to know about the elementary and middle schools: they all offer a variety of sports, band, music, drama, and art programs for students to get involved in. There are gifted programs, resources to assist students with academic needs, smart technology in classrooms, small class sizes, and DARE programs facilitated with local police departments. As for the high schools, a few things to note. District eighty-six, which includes Hinsdale South and Hinsdale Central, had twenty-six students as semi-finalist in the national merit scholarship program, and fifty-one students commended in that program. South’s varsity girl’s badminton team won the conference title and championships in all fifteen positions, which is the first time in the school’s history to achieve this. LT and both Hinsdale high schools have a number of athletic teams with divisional and regional championship titles, including dance line, soccer, cross country, golf, and basketball, and many of their academic and career clubs have also won competitions. Regardless of where you send your children, they all offer many options for them to explore and develop their interests and skills. Now, if you’re a homeowner, as I mentioned at the beginning of this video, you should be concerned about the schools in your community. Obviously this is true if you have children and want to send them to the best schools, but it’s also true for everyone. A recent study from the National Association of Realtors showed that 26% of home buyers considered the quality of schools when looking for a new home. And as someone who works and lives in this area, I can tell you from personal experience that this is absolutely true. In fact, the majority of my clients, well over 50%, consider schools when purchasing a home in Burr Ridge. Realtor.com found that homes in highly-rated districts are 49% more expensive than the national median home value and 77% more expensive than ones in lower-rated districts. So whether or not you have school-aged children, it’s clear that school ratings impact home values in the area, and so this should be a consideration for anyone looking for a home that offers the best value. Burr Ridge offers a number of great home and school options, and we haven’t even touched on any of the other education options like private schools and homeschooling community groups. I’m Eric with Eric Andersen Homes, and I’d love to help you navigate your options so that you choose the perfect home in the perfect location.
