Chicagoland’s Best Ice Cream!

When it’s hot outside, there’s nothing better than a nice, cold scoop of ice cream. Who am I kidding? I love ice cream even when it’s cold out. Hi, I’m Eric with Eric Andersen Homes, and these are some of my family’s favorite places to go for ice cream in the Chicagoland area.

Plush Horse in Palos Park has to be at the top of the list. I’ve been going there with my family since I was little, and just last night I had what has to be the most amazing ice cream flavor ever: popcorn M&M. It is absolutely divine. My wife & son both tried a sample and had the same reaction: huh, it tastes like popcorn. For my part, I didn’t even need a sample. There’s no way something that sounds that good could possibly be bad.

Tate’s in La Grange is also a family favorite. Not only do they have some amazing ice cream, they also sell candy and small toys. I’d recommend their peppermint.

The Original Rainbow Cone on Western in Chicago is one of my all-time favorites. If you’ve never had a rainbow cone before, you need to correct that immediately. A rainbow cone has 5 flavors: chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (that’s vanilla with walnuts and cherries—yum!), pistachio, and orange sherbert. And yes, I know there is no “r” in sherbet, but here in Chicago, we say sherbert. I’m not sure why, but that’s just the way it is.

Moving on, I would be remiss not to mention Premo’s in Oak Lawn. There’s nothing fancy about their ice cream, but they have delicious soft serve and even put a set of candy googly eyes on each cone. The eyes are the best part. Always ask for extra eyes.

Rounding out the list of indie ice cream places, you should also be sure to check out Petersen’s in Oak Park. Not only do they have great quality ice cream, they also spell “Petersen” the correct, though less common way— “s-e-n.” That’s Danish, for the uninitiated, and misspelled 99% of the time. To the 1% who ask if it’s “s-o-n” or “s-e-n”, my deepest gratitude.

Chicagoland also has some great chain ice cream places, including Oberweis and Cold Stone. Oberweis’ peanut butter cookie dough is one of my favorites, and Cold Stone has some great mix-ins. I’d recommend the aptly named “peanut butter perfection.”

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed this video. I’d go on, but I have the sudden urge to go out and get some ice cream. I’m Eric with Eric Andersen Homes, and I’m here to provide you with a smarter approach to real estate.

In loving memory of Cock Robin. I never had the pleasure, but I’ve heard good things, and you are missed by many.
