The real estate market typically hibernates a little in the winter, but we all know this year has been anything but typical. I’m Eric, owner and broker at Eric Andersen Homes, and inventory remains scarce as buyer demand remains high due to record-low interest rates. This combo has led economist Lawrence Yun to predict this will be one of the best winter sales years ever. Not a good winter for sellers, but one of the best ever. If you’re in the market to buy a home, you’d better gear up, because housing hunting right now is a full-contact sport (with appropriate social distancing, of course). Realtor.com’s market survey showed a 39% drop in inventory since 2019. It is definitely competitive for buyers, who have had to make very quick decisions and faced plenty of competition this fall. That shows no signs of letting up over the winter. 71% of homes sold in September were on the market for less than a month. And specifically, average market time was only 21 days, an all-time low. If you’re thinking of selling, it’s hard to find a better time.
