The 3 Disinfecting Mistakes Everyone Makes

Transcript:

It goes without saying that the importance of cleaning is at an all-time high, but are you cleaning correctly? I’m Eric with Eric Andersen Homes, and in this short video, I will share the 3 things everyone gets wrong about disinfecting. First, just because something looks clean doesn’t mean it is clean. Disinfecting is what kills germs. But just because you’re disinfecting doesn’t mean you’re doing it correctly, which brings us to our second point: in order to be effective, disinfectants need contact time, or to remain on a surface for long enough for the product to work. A quick wipe-down may not be enough. For guidance, be sure to check the label on whatever product you’re using. Clorox wipes need at least four minutes of surface time to work properly. Bleach may need up to 10 minutes of contact time to kill certain germs. The third common cleaning miscalculation is to think that recently cleaned means always clean. Just because you disinfected properly once doesn’t mean it’ll stay that way. The minute it’s touched again, it is no longer germ-free. But be careful here, because it’s also possible to over-disinfect. Just like an antibiotic too often taken, over-disinfecting can actually cause germs to become more resilient or mutate into supergerms. The best thing you can do is use disinfectants when you need them, and focus on treating those surfaces with the highest risk of transmission. I’m Eric with Eric Andersen Homes, and I’m here to provide you with a smarter approach to real estate.
